A voracious reader since childhood, Evanna Lynch found her way into acting through her love of books. Her professional career began at age 14, when her passion for reading led her to audition for the role of Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films. She went on to play the iconic role in the Harry Potter films 5-8. Since then, she has continued to act on stage and screen and as a voiceover artist. She played the titular character in 2015’s My Name Is Emily, the Simon Fitzmaurice directed independent film for which she received an IFTA Nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She also starred in the 2018 Off-Broadway production of Enda Walsh’s cult classic play Disco Pigs, directed by John Haidar. The show received a badge of honour getting named a “NYT Critic’s Pick” by Ben Brantley of the NY Times.
Lynch is a keen writer and in October 2021, she published her first book, a memoir, The Opposite of Butterfly Hunting: The Tragedy and The Glory of Growing Up. Her book was described by the Mail on Sunday as ‘a darkly compelling, highly topical account of journeying from girlhood to womanhood’ and by writer Daisy Buchanan as ‘Raw, frank and utterly heartfelt, but full of love and joy too, one of the most moving and uplifting memoirs I’ve ever read’.
Evanna has dedicated much of her recent years towards animal rights and vegan activism and is an ambassador for Veganuary, CIWF and World Animal Protection. In 2017, she launched a vegan podcast, The ChickPeeps, where she explored the topic of living a vegan lifestyle. In summer 2022, she joined forces with Dr Melanie Joy, author and psychologist, co-hosting a new podcast, Just Beings.
Having danced since her childhood, Evanna is also passionate about movement and continues to study new disciplines. In 2019 she discovered a love for the circus arts and has trained in aerial hoop, flying trapeze, rope and silks.
Evanna is currently based in London and is working on her first novel.
